Kabataan Partylist extends its deep condolences to loved ones and friends left behind by Ka Fidel, NDFP Negotiating Panel Chairperson
With clenched fist, we honor Fidel V. Agcaoili, a dedicated activist who has served the Filipino nation from his youth to the end of his days. In the pursuit of just and lasting peace, Ka Fidel served as the chairman of the negotiating panel of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) when he died at the age of 75, amid terminated peace negotiations with the Philippine Government.
The peace negotiations have already given way to landmark agreements such as the Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CAHRIHL). It was on its way to laying groundwork for the aspired Comprehensive Agreement on Social and Economic Reform (CASER), which includes provisions for genuine land reform and national industrialization aimed to uplift the lives of millions of Filipinos, until Duterte unilaterally terminated the peace talks back in November 2017.
His passing is a great loss to the peacemaking process and thus, we strengthen our determination to fight for the people’s democratic rights to address the root cause of armed conflict in the country and finally attain a just and lasting peace. This representation will continue to fight with the people whether within the confines of formal parliament or the parliament of the streets and communities.
As Ka Fidel has displayed tireless revolutionary vigor in his youth during the Martial law years up until the very end of his days, we are inspired to wage the fight for our rights along with the numerous oppressed and marginalized with even greater burning fervor—especially with the clouds of fascism and dictatorship hanging darker as the days pass.
Struggle for just and lasting peace! Rest in power, Ka Fidel!
