Today, not only do we honor the life of the late opposition senator Ninoy Aquino, but we also celebrate his fight against the Marcos dictatorship in the name of freedom and democracy.
An icon for human rights and civil liberties, we remember Ninoy Aquino for his love of the country, especially those in the poor and the marginalized sectors of whom he spent his life fighting for.
Currently, the country is facing a Marcosian-figure like Duterte. Democratic rights of the people are under attack. Thousands were already killed and the culture of impunity is still prevalent in the country under the Duterte Regime.
With the death of peace and freedom figters such as Ka Randy Echanis and Zara Alvarez, the memories and struggles of these modern-day martyrs would never fade as the people continue to struggle for human rights, socio-economic reforms, justice and peace.
We urge the youth as the Pag-asa ng Bayan and the people to find inspiration from Ninoy Aquino’s life and struggles as we face this new breed of dictatorship and fascism in Duterte.
We call for justice for all the victims of political persecution from this Administration!
