On August 14, 2020, elements of the 62nd Infantry Battalion arrested three minors at Sitio Maluy-a, Brgy. Sandayao, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental. They were identified as Renel Remasog, 17, Meriam Benero, 17, and Mary Ann Pesculado, 15.
Renel Remasog is the younger brother of Requem Remasog who was shot dead by the 62nd IBPA prior to the former’s arrest. According to the personal accounts of the residents, the siblings were charging their phones at the house of Delia Teniano when the 62nd IBPA arrived. Meanwhile, the two minor girls were near the area in search for a signal.
The illegally arrested minors were brought to a CAFGU detachment in Brgy. Sandayao. However, when their families searched for them in the said place, they were told that the minors were brought along by 62nd IBPA. Renel is facing trumped-up charges of murder. Meanwhile, the 62nd IBPA falsely tagged the 2 minor girls as NPA recruits. In an attempt to cover up and justify the series of human rights violations that transpired in Sitio Maluy-a, they brazenly claimed that there had been an encounter in the area. | Via Karapatan -Central Visayas
We demand for the three minors to be immediately released and all the trumped-up charges be dropped.
