KABATAAN ALERT: 37 Lumad families evacuated after AFP bombing

Around 37 Lumad families were evacuated to a neighboring community after BOMBER PLANES of the Armed Forces of the Philippines DROPPED eight bombs near their community at 2:00 AM, July 15, 2020. The family of indigenous people were from Sitio Panukmoan and Decoy in Diatagon, Lianga, Surigao del Sur. Residents, especially the children and elders, were traumatized by the incident as they were asleep when the bombing occurred.

Residents said that they started to hear at least 4 helicopters, 2 bomber planes, and 2 drones hovering around their area at 1:00 AM.

Dated accounts from July 8 and 9 also shows that aerial attacks and gunshots from the military choppers were also heard.

The aerial bombings was confirmed by 1Lt. Krisjuper Andreo Punsalan of the 3rd Special Forces Battalion on a radio interview, July 15.
Around 60 soldiers also arrived on July 16, 2020, at Sitio Km 16 of the same barangay.

Numerous foreign mining firms have been wanting to start operating in the ancestral lands of the Lumad.

The youth stands in unison with the Lumad communities in upholding their rights of self-determination and of right to ancestral lands.
