As we celebrate International Students’ Day today with various online, no matter where we might be—US, Canada, Sweden, Hong Kong, Palestine, and the Philippines—youth and student power is something that is gravely feared by the ruling elite. Student and youth movements and their leaders are often villified, degraded, harassed, and persecuted by the state for standing up to the status quo. Yet driven by our principles and beliefs, the youth continues to struggle.
This persecution and fear is a recognition that the youth have unlimited potential, boundless energy, and endless drive for genuine social change. In the face of stiff opposition, we will stand up, we will speak out, and we will fight to leave behind a world better than the one we inherited.
In the final analysis, the world belongs to us. The people’s hope is placed on us. The future belongs to us.
