Kabataan to Año: “We have the right to exercise our constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression and to peaceful assembly. Don’t be a coward, face the rage of the people!”
Kabataan Partylist hits DILG Secretary Año’s statement prohibiting mass gathering on the day of the State of the Nation Address of Pres. Duterte. Various peoples organizations are set for the broadest gathering of Filipinos at Commonwealth Avenue, Commission on Human Rights on July 27, 2020, to protest the incompetence of Duterte administration in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic and the passage of terror law.
Secretary Año’s statement goes against our constitutional rights that no law, moreso neither policies, guidelines nor memorandum, shall be passed abridging our freedom of speech and our right to peaceably assemble.
This is a clear manifestation of the Duterte Administration’s fear and insecurity from the collective rage of the people critical and vocal against its governance. Let us condemn these attacks to our rights and liberties and march forward in our dissent against this Administration!
On Monday, hundreds of youth are set to gather and mobilize, at different parts of the country, to express their rage and dissent to the government’s pandemic response and continuous neglect to the plight of the people.
Let’s intensify our fight! Makibaka! H’wag Matakot!###
