On the 3rd Death Anniversary of Kian De Los Santos, Kabataan Partylist condemns the relentless killings under the Duterte Regime and the Kidnapping and Murder of Tokhang Victims in SJDM Bulacan, anew.

Kabataan Party-list condemns the kidnapping and murder of six (6) innocent persons by 11 police officials in San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan.

The victims were killed by pairs on separate days in February 2020. Before this, according to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) itself, the victims were arrested, blindfolded, and detained pending the inspection of their names in the drugs watch list. It was later confirmed that all 6 were not in the drug watch list.

Kabataan Party-list condemns these atrocious killings anew. We are alarmed with the claims by the police officers involved that the suspects fought back, a classic narrative of “nanlaban”. This is clearly a police “alibi”. According to NBI, the suspects tested negative for gunpowder nitrates and they were previously arrested and detained in a room by the same cops. It only confirms the cops’ modus operandi of vigilante killings and the planting of firearms.

The Duterte administration’s fascist drug war led to more than 30,000 deaths and thousands of children orphaned. Since Oplan Tokhang was implemented, killings of suspected drug users and pushers in the slums areas have been relentless.

The youth and the people were outraged when Kian De Los Santos was mercilessly killed by the Police Caloocan in 2017. Kian is 17 years old and was just about to close their sari-sari store when the policemen came and dragged him towards the corner of a vacant lot. His hands were tied while his face was on the ground with a pistol planted into his left hand (albeit being right-handed) when the people saw his lifeless body. According to the police, he is a drug pusher and “nanlaban”. Since then, we’ve been hearing this “nanlaban” as police’ alibi on why the drug suspects always end up dead.

Now that Duterte signed the Anti-Terrorism Law, which authorizes warrantless arrest upon mere suspicion and detention for a maximum of 24 days, he also signed the outright violation of the people’s democratic rights.

Kabataan calls for a full, independent, and partial probe to all the victims of Duterte’s bloody war on drugs. We call for justice for the victims and their families and for the prosecution of the perpetrators. The perpetrators should be brought to justice just like the cops who helplessly killed drug war victim Kian delos Santos. We call for an end to the long-running bloody drug war of the Duterte administration which has claimed the lives of thousands of Filipinos. Duterte himself should be held accountable for the continuous attacks on people’s democratic rights.
