Kabataan Party-list strongly condemns the killing of former peasant organizer and incumbent Barangay councilor Harold Tablazon and his colleague, SK Chairperson Glenn Bunda yesterday, June 20 at around 7 in the evening in Barangay Mayang, Tubungan in Iloilo city.
According to the report released by Panay Today, an alternative media news outfit in Western Visayas, the two were gunned down sustaining a total of 32 gunshots by what are to be believed to be state elements. Recovered from the scene of the crime were thirty-two 9mm empty shell bullets and six .45 caliber bullets.
As a former peasant organizer, he was active at the Federation of Iloilo Farmers Association (FIFA), an affiliate of Pamanggas-Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas. He now works as a solar panel installer in Panay with Bunda.
The youth vividly remembers the news about the murder of Jory Porquia on the same island which occurred on April 30. “According to former Bayan Muna Rep. Seigfred Deduro, now Bayan Muna Panay Coordinator: “prior to this killing, Jory was hounded by elements of Iloilo City PNP for leading relief operations and education campaign on COVID 19 among hungry residents of poor communities in Iloilo City.”
With the ‘Anti-terror bill’ in its way to its passage into law, critics, dissenters, activists, and sectors from the youth and women, the church, peasants and workers and the ordinary Filipino will be all put into danger as provisions in the soon to become terror law will allow it to vaguely point anyone as ‘terrorists’. Added to that is the removal of the safeguards that had once brought state elements into fear of repercussions–real terror will finally be at the hands of the government.
Kabataan Party-list calls on our fellow youth to strengthen the call to stop the attacks and to join the struggle to end the injustices and impunity that have worsened since the commencement of the militarized lockdown of the administration.
We likewise enjoin everyone to resist and oppose the hasty passage of terror bill which will finally seal the tight grip of the administration to all governmental and civilian institutions spelling the death of democracy in the country.
It is our obligation to not put the deaths of Jory, Harold, and Glen in vain.
JUSTICE FOR HAROLD TABLAZON!
JUSTICE FOR GLENN BUNDA!
JUSTICE FOR JORY PORQUIA!
